Caloundra National: Just amazing to see the queue to get in on Saturday morning stretching away down North Street for several hundred metres. Unfortunately I could only make it for the Saturday and that passed like a whirlwind! The Sunshine Coast Club did a great job. One of the biggest and best Nationals ever with lots of stories of great deals being done over the weekend. See below for a few photos from the show, mainly of some of the fabulous displays (and let me add this was just a fraction of what was shown). Not sure how the last picture got in there mind you?! The show was quite thirst inducing however...

Auction 12: All the lots are numbered (820 in total) and Travis is two-thirds of the way through getting the printed catalogue done. Then we just have to re-size some images, take all the secondary images, get a preview gallery loaded and start loading the online catalogue. So you should know a bit more about what exactly is in the auction within the next couple of weeks. Once again there is a range of items from bargain basement to some of the best of the best. Hope you enjoy it!
National Show: Remember folks that the National is fast approaching. There is a Facebook page with all the details. It's on the 4th & 5th May at the Caloundra Indoor Stadium, North Street, Caloundra. The regular show the Sunshine Coast Club have up there is always huge with thousands through the door and this year there will be even more coming from interstate. Get along if you can.
Labels: While we edit and prepare all the images for Auction 12 we do in the meantime have a slideshow of 70 labels that are in this coming auction. You'll see some details under the 9th April post below about them. They are an absolutely spectacular find, largely due to their age. Cranbourne Collectors Fair: Don't forget this event will be on this Sunday. Details under last weeks post.Auction 12: Labels! Over the next three auctions we will feature a spectacular collection of mainly Aerated Water, Cordial and Wine labels. This group was found in two travellers sample packs from the firm of F. W. Niven & Co., Ballarat. From the vintages on the wine labels and known end dates of some of the firms on the cordial labels we can date this group to the 1880s-1890s period. There are a total of 239 labels with only around half a dozen doubles and no more than 2 of any single label. Many of these will be the only examples in existence. There is a great mixture of large and small companies and a spread of (mostly Victorian) towns and suburbs represented. This dispersal represents a once in a lifetime opportunity to add some extremely rare and early labels to your collection.
Auction 12 will feature 70 of these labels - see the slideshow above for those coming up! (Yep I've moved the slideshow up to the 16th April post)

BEER! On tonight (Wednesday, 20th March) is a beer tasting at Chloe's Bar, Young & Jackson's Hotel, Melbourne. So why give you a heads up here? Well this beer, produced by Thunder Road Brewery of Brunswick is based on an 1870s recipe by Melbourne brewing pioneer Alfred Terry. It will be fascinating to see just what was in some of those early bottles we all love.

26th February 2013
Auction 11: Bidding begins in a little over a days time. Naturally enough we are very excited about this offering. I've been harping on about it but nearly 90% of the lots have no reserve and the vast majority of these also have very low start prices so savvy buyers should have plenty of opportunities to get some bargains.
The Antique Dispensary: Friend of ABCR Auctions (Laurence Cooper). Has branched out online with a superb looking website - The Antique Dispensary - featuring some truly wonderful items from the UK. I'm sure this will be a site well worth keeping an eye on!
Coolamon: And another reminder that this Saturday (2nd March) this great little annual event will be on. It is always a super friendly day so come along and say g'day. Here is where you will find us - The Up-to-Date Store.
19th February 2013
Auction 11: The Catalogue is online and available for viewing. 787 lots ranging from the bargain basement to some of the best available in their given categories. The vast majority of Lots are being offered with no reserve so there are some great opportunities to pick up a bargain or two.
Toowoomba: The latest edition of this show/auction weekend took place over the 16th and 17th of February and (at least to the eyes of this observer) went off without a hitch. GDL Auctions held a tremendous live auction on the Saturday night with some fabulous items. Some exceptional prices were achieved but there were also plenty of bargains amongst the mid and lower range stuff. A great night had by all.
Coolamon: This brilliant little show is on again at the Up To Date Store in Coolamon on Saturday 2nd March. Coolamon is a lovely little country town just 40km North West of Wagga and well worth a visit. This show is short and sharp so get there early on the Saturday. The venue will be jam-packed with great bottles and collectables.
16th January 2013
Auction # 11 Preview is now ready for viewing!10th January 2013
Auction 11: Getting close now! The listing is complete and the catalogue is currently being put together. This auction will have the most lots we have had in a single auction and there is a wide range of items covering all categories and value ranges. Pleasingly a vast majority will be offered without reserve so there should be some bargains available for astute bidders. You should expect to see more frequent updates over the next few weeks as we lead up to the auction start.
Auction 10 Printed Results: Sorry. These have been delayed, mainly because Dave has been all over the countryside picking up bottles and keeps putting off doing the finishing touches and getting them printed. They WILL be done in the next day or two and sent out early next week...promise! (In the meantime of course the results are available online).
