Hazelhurst Patent Bottle

c1886-1900

Very interesting patent. Like a Codd this bottle used a marble as a stopper to seal against a rubber ring inserted into a groove in the lip. Unlike a Codd this patent had the marble on the outside of the bottle and required a metal clip to hold it in place.

The example in this auction is unbranded (although it has the name of the glass maker – Turner & Co) and is without its clip. However with the patent application pictures below it should be possible to make one!

This bottle and closure was patented in Victoria on 23rd August 1886.
