Sold for A$15

M. E. Abbott / Registered (Phoenix) Trade Mark / Tasmania // This bottle is / the property of / M. E. Abbott and / must be returned. Base Mark: Initials. (Tasmania) Aerated Water Codd Slip cast. Small. 192 mm. 1980s

Excellent. Moulded from original bottles, these then shrunk in the kiln and so are smaller than normal codds. Glaze hairline right up the left side, curves around the bottom of the lip and slightly down on the right side. This is a making hairline. Another short one on the right side of the chamber. I can be confident this is not later damage, as this beast comes in the original box with original wood shavings, tissue in top, business card from the manufacturer and details on an original note. Made by Ceramic 5 Studio, 13 Russell Street, Invermay, Launceston. Early Tasmanian bottle replica by Garth Foley, information included on the purpose of a codd and also stating there were five factories in Launceston in 1910, Abbott's being the last which was taken over by Coca-Cola. Interesting piece, you do not see them often, but in the original package and with the original details, this is a great collectors piece. Grade: 8 Estimate: $$50.00 - $75.00
