McWilliam's / Sweet Sherry. (New South Wales) Wine Barrel Wooden ovoid wine barrel with bands. About 1 Gallon. 373 mm. 1920s
Very Good. The lower body band is missing from this. The other bands have some rust, and can move a bit too. This aged barrel is no longer able to be used, you can see daylight through the joins! One panel to the rear is slightly pushed out and has split. Dark band around lower body where the missing metal band was once. The all important advertising that has been painted on has some wear in places, and is discoloured. Plenty of scratches and stains scattered around. An absolutely fabulous piece of early New South Wales wine industry advertising, not sure on the age, but certainly quite an early piece. Maybe from the period when McWilliams first went to the Riverina district? Grade: 7 Estimate: $200 - 300
