Embossing: Davies & Capel / Bendigo // Trade (Knight holding a Lance on Horseback) / Mark. Base: M. (Victoria)

Type: Aerated Water Codd

Variety: All Way Pour. Applied top. Aqua. 10 oz.

Era: 1900s

Height: 230 mm

Condition: Very Good. Polished. Over about 45 mm to one side towards the base is a long streak which is a glass pull from making, the top part of this appears as a 12 x 4 mm chip. The opposite side also has a similar mark, but this is a lump on the glass. Tiny flake to upper body on writing side has had some slight work done to it to minimise it, it was small to start with. Some fine scratches and tiny fisheyes to be found, but in general the glass is smooth and shiny. The embossing is crisp on this one and the trade mark well detailed, so the polish job has been a good one! Quite a rare bottle.

Grade: 7.5

Embossing: M. A. Whittaker / Registered / (MAW Monogram in a Diamond) / Trade Mark / Maryborough / Soda Water. Base: HM 622 / Modern AGM Monogram / M. (Victoria)

Couple of deepish scuffed patches to rear upper body. Couple of fine fisheyes to front shoulder. Some other fine scuffs and scratches. Very shiny, embossing is heavy with just some minor marks to a few of the letters. Not many codds have the modern AGM base mark, showing that they were still used into the 1930s.

Embossing: Sanderson & Co / Camberwell // Trade Mark / (Lion). Around base mark: Made by the Melbour // ne Glass Bottle Co. No base mark. (Victoria)

Condition: Good. Polished. Couple of nibbled marks to lower part of applied lip. A few small fisheyes to upper lip. Oiled internally. Discoloured fisheye or two. Plenty of fisheyes remaining, impact marks and some scratches. Pitted marks here and there. Surface is smooth in general, around the embossing it is a little more scratched where the polish has not had as much of an effect. Embossing is rounded in places. Quite stained under the base, shows what it would have looked like prior to the polish. Deep scuff to bulged neck is in a flat spot, there has been some grinding work done here to minimise this. Bubble over N below the lion has a slightly fractured part to the upper edge of it on the embossed letter.

Condition: Very Good. Quite scuffed around the middle with crate wear and the upper embossing in particular shows a fair bit of wear. Scratch on the front neck. A bit of dirt and haze inside. Embossing: Geo. Lamb / Trade / (Lamb) / Mark / Thursday Island. No base mark. (Queensland)

Type: Aerated Water Codd

Variety: Applied top. Unusual codd style patent with one deep tear drop. Aqua. 13 oz.

Era: 1890s

Height: 218 mm

Condition: Poor. Inner dirt, this should wash out. Heavy impacted mark to left neck, there is a crack from this from the top of the lip down to the neck groove, this crack is a bruised type crack which is wide, it goes 12 mm one way, and another 12 mm the other way, particularly around the impact, so up to 24 mm wide in places! The crack travels along the neck groove to the other side as well. There is a crack also starting from the lamb's nose which goes right down to the base and then across about 50 mm to the other side under the base. A few scuffs and scratches. A shiny example, this only has one tear drop, so is a very odd patent, with the tear drop being very pronounced, it still captures the marble nicely. A good shelf filler.

Era: 1890s

Condition: Good. A nice bottle made at the Botany Glass Works. A nice bottle made by John Lamont in Glasgow. Yes, I did just say it is made in two different places, but it has the BGW base mark and John Lamont's details! Where was it made then? I don't know! I am guessing in Glasgow, maybe they sent over the mould used at the Botany Glass Works for use in Glasgow? Quite heavily stained throughout. There is an 8 x 6 mm flake to the lower rear lip that goes under the applied lip, this is a making mark. Pitted marks scattered around. Scratches and fisheyes. Very heavy embossing has some high point wear and nibbles in places. The neck dimples are a little flattened on this peculiar oddity.

Height: 221 mm

Condition: Excellent. What a beauty! Stunning original condition. Very unusual too with the earlier name (without & Co) but a spun top. Would date to around 1905. There is a tiny 2 x 2 mm flake to the side lip. A 3 x 1 mm impact to the lower front top. A 2 x 2 mm impact at the lower back. Some slight surface dirt and haze towards the base. Embossing is just about perfect. Kind of a squat shape. You won't find a better example of this bottle.

Type: Aerated Water Codd

Variety: Applied top, tooled finish. Dobson or four way type patent. Aqua. 13 oz.

Extremely fine star fracture to inner front chamber, most of this is only on the inner surface but a small part of it goes further into the glass near the right dimple. Small nibbled flake to inner front lip, another little nick around from this. Some light stain internally. Some dullness externally, mainly down the right, there are some fisheyes and scratches amongst this. Just some light scuffs and scratches elsewhere. Heavy embossing is a little nibbled in places.

Embossing: J. Leeson / J. L. / A. (Within a Heart) / Alberton. South Gippsland // Lemonade. Base Mark: M. (Victoria) (James A. Lerk Collection)

Type: Aerated Water Codd

Variety: Applied top, spun finish. Four way pour Dobson style patent with four dimples. Aqua. 13 oz.

Era: 1910s

Height: 218 mm

Condition: Good. This is different to the others we have sold, it has lemonade to the rear. There are a couple of flakes to the front upper lip and a nibble or two. Some inner dirt that should mostly wash out. Some grime externally that will wash off. Little surface flake to rear shoulder. Some nibbles to a few of the embossed letters. Some scratches and the odd scuff. The surface mainly to the front has some odd dips, little holes going into the glass giving it a deep orange peel effect. This has a slightly smoky colour to it, this is possibly some heat damage? It could also be the way it was made? With no other heat damage around these spots it is hard to tell one way or the other. A decent example of a scarce bottle, this is from the James A. Lerk collection.
