Nibbles under the bottom of the applied top at the back. A couple of scuffs amongst the embossing but basically a brilliant looking bottle. One of the best pictorial marble bottles around.

Embossing: Rowlands / late / Rowlands / & Lewis / Ballarat / & / Melbourne // Rowlands / Patent / (Shield) / (Miner & Farmer) / (Coat of Arms) / Trade Mark. Base Mark: 2. (Victoria)

Type: Aerated Water Codd

Variety: Rowlands Patent. Applied top. Dark Aqua. 10 oz.

Era: 1870s

Height: 223 mm

Condition: Repaired. A correct top in a similar colour was found for this repair, making the result very good! Repaired through the lower neck at the top of the bulge. A few discoloured scratches, a bit scuffed with several other scratches. Oiled internally as it would have been a tad hazy. Rear base edge has a section of flaked wear over about 15 x 5 mm. Deep scratch under base. Very rare with Rowlands Patent embossed, and in this great colour with the correct top this is a great gap filler.

Grade: 0

One side of this in the lower lip has an angled 18 x 12 mm angled fracture that goes through the glass on an angle, in such a way that it s only noticeable on certain angles. Remains of some pitted marks and fisheyes. Embossing has been well protected during the polish, there are some minor high point nicks but nothing dastardly. Some fine scuffs and scratches to be found. A rare bottle, this is the first we have sold.

Grade: 6.6

Embossing: (Shield) / (Lion) / Trade / Mark / McDougall Bros & Co / Windsor / M. G. B. Co. Base: McD Monogram. (Victoria)

Type: Aerated Water Codd

Variety: Bulge or Bulb type. Applied top. Aqua. 10 oz.

Era: 1890s

Height: 237 mm

Condition: Very Good. Polished. Looks to be some very minor lip work. Smooth surfaces. Remains of some pitting and scratches. Has been a heavy scuff across the top of the trade mark that just remains, probably from where some grinding has been done to a shallow chip above the trade mark. Still has copper from the polish in the groove in the lip. Pretty decent example of a scarce Melbourne codd. This is the same example that we sold in Auction 26.

Variety: Applied top. Traditional codd style patent with two tear drops. Aqua. 6 oz.

Era: 1890s

Height: 190 mm

Condition: Very Good. Coated with a lacquer of some sort which has yellowed over the years. The few spots where this has flaked reveals shiny glass underneath! This would have had some hazy patches only I would suggest, and so stripping the coating off will leave the surface looking quite good! Little impact to lower front lip. A few impacts around the base edge. Scattered tiny fisheyes. Tiny surface flake to mid left body. A few little pitted marks. Scratches to be found and some scuff marks. One of the E's is a little flaked, some minor marks to some of the other letters. A solid example of a rare bottle, we have never offered one for sale before.

Shiny throughout, there are remains of some pitted marks and fisheyes. Embossing is a tad rounded but still quite strong, this does have nicks and wear to it. The T of trade is nearly non existent. A decent looking example of a rare bottle. This small size with the curved Frankston Springs writing is not one you will see again in a hurry.

This is nibbled around the edges as well. Otherwise, the bottle is extremely good. Little patch or two of inner haze. Small spot of wear to front shoulder amongst some scuffs. Little nibbled impact surface flake to lower rear body. Some scratches and small scuffs. Little impact or two and one or two fisheyes. A lovely looking bottle, very rare in this small size!
