Sold for A$1,700

Rowland's / Patent / (Farmer & Miner) / Trade Mark // Rowlands / Late / Rowlands / & Lewis / Ballarat / & / Melbourne. Base Mark: Codd's / Patent. Aerated Water Codd Applied top. All Way Pour type patent, this is called in this case a Rowland's Patent, although it has Codd's Patent under the base. Aqua. 13 oz. 225 mm. 1880s

Near Mint. This version in the deep aqua and embossed Rowlands Patent is extremely rare. Also, this should be called the farmer and farmer trade mark, as in this case the miner has a rake as opposed to a pick over his shoulder! You can clearly see the prongs on the rake, due to the fabulous condition of this piece. There is a fine film of dirt inside and a bit of heavier dirt inside the base, this will wash out. Just a few fine scratches and tiny scuff marks. The blob top has a wonderful orange peel effect. Embossing is absolutely spotless, one E in Melbourne has a small flake to lower part of it. Slightly uneven base from making, this has a slight wobble when sitting on a flat surface. You won't find better! Grade: 9.4 Estimate: $1000 - 1250
