J. Bartlett & Co / Trade (JB & Co) Mark / Tatura. Base Mark: (KBC monogram) / 8954. (Victoria) Aerated Water Lamont Applied top. Aqua. 10 oz. 234 mm. 1880s

Very Good. Small flake and some nibbles to front left lip. A few other really small flakes around the lip edge and some fine wear. Some stain to inner left shoulder. Small impact flake to left rear base edge. Scuffs and scratches throughout with some fisheyes and fine impact marks. Dirty open bubble to front next to embossing. This is the first one we have seen, a very rare bottle, this must have been the first bottle used by John Bartlett! This would be 1880s, maybe early 1890s. In 1942 the following obituary appeared in the Goulburn Valley Stock and Property Journal: MR. JOHN BARTLETT. The death has occurred at Tatura of Mr. John Bartlett - J. P., at the age of 80 years. Bom at Rushworth he had resided in Tatura for about 60 years and had up to recent years taken a prominent part in the advancement of the district, being a foundation member of many organisations, including the Mechanics' Institute, public gardens, the I.O.O.F., Masonic lodge and acted as a vestryman for the Church of England. He was also closely identified with many sporting bodies. The late Mr. Bartlett was a commissioner of the water trust for 25 1/2 years, and represented the town on Rodney shire council for ten years. Before leaving Rushworth he managed a cordial factory for the late Mr. James Septimus Darby, and later established a cordial factory in Tatura. His wife predeceased him seven years ago. He leaves a family of one son and five daughters, namely: Rita (Mrs. Evans, Rushworth), George, Tatura, Elizabeth (Mrs. W. F. Martin, Tatura): Nancy, Tatura; Mary ("Mollie") and Frances (A.W.A.S.), Tatura. So, as can be seen by this article, he was born in 1862, manged Darby's factory in Rushworth prior to moving to Tatura, this you would think would have been in his later 20s, which would be later 1880s. It stands to reason therefore that this is one of his first bottles used, if not the first! Grade: 7.3 Estimate: $200 - 300
